My Day in a Nutshell

On the very rare occasion I get a weekend off, this was what my day looked like:



8:00 AM - I got to sleep in till 8!! And i rolled out of bed and onto my yoga mat.




9:00 AM - I made myself some coffee while I got started onto some early morning crafting!


11:00AM - I didn't get done until about 2 hours later and then continued with some chores like sweeping and cleaning the bathroom.




12:00PM - We haven't got our washer and dryer yet so we drove to J's parents' to do our laundry!




1:00PM - While a load was in the wash, we trudged outside to do some mushroom foraging.




2:00PM - We trekked over to see the neighbor's (very friendly) cow. Poor sod, she is always so happy to see us, I suspect she is really lonely. She bellows real loud when she sees us coming, and bellows again when we leave.

4:00PM - The laundry didn't get done till now, and then we drove home.

5:00PM - It started to pour, but we were getting ready for our movie night out! J was going to see Underworld with his dad and brother while my friends and I got tickets for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

6:00PM - It was growing darker by the minute and still pouring. Even so, Birkdale is a pretty place at night! There were only parallel parking lots available. I aced the parking bit, even though I held up the traffic for a good while.

9:00PM - After we cried buckets, the movie ended. I got home and read a bad review about the movie here. Didn't think it was very fair, but certainly spot on about Hanks and Bullocks' non-contribution, as well as stellar performance by Von Sydow. I still think it's an ok watch, certainly a standard Hollywood tear-jerker.

Suzuki Reno on Suzuki Dr

So J and I found a 2nd car!!!!

I'm happy but also a little disappointed. After all, we were supposed to look for a car for ME! But the sweetest deal we found was a manual transmission (*sheepish* i cannot drive a manual to save my life) so he gets this:



2007 Suzuki Reno, 88,000miles for $5800!!!

What a steal!

It will look really fierce, especially when we clean it out and give it new rims. But for now, my piggy bank has been cleaned out! I've saved a loooooong time for a car. So no new rims in the near future.

I'm tempted to learn how to drive a stick now that the car is sitting in the garage, although the J-man did stall 4 times going up the hill. Can I really do it?

On road rage

So this is the quote the J-man quietly showed me the other day.

I have serious road rage ever since I got my driver's license a few months ago.
It irks me when people...

1. do not use their blinkers when changing lanes
2. cruise at a leisurely pace in the passing lane
3. ride up my ar** attempting to speed me up even though there are ten cars ahead of me

dude? are you rushing to meet your maker?!


And then this makes me think of my dear friend R. She went ballistic on a man who drove recklessly next to her in an attempt to take over. They both stopped at a light, she wound her window down, and in her best psychotic impression, said in full Singlish glory,

"Wah! You very good! You number ONE! You WIN!"

Tight-lipped, the man stared straight ahead, and his wife who was in the passenger seat, looked very worried.

And then the daily morning dose of caffeine gives me an adrenaline rush. I just noticed I drive with my teeth clenched. So i gave up coffee as of today (not counting the 26 other previous attempts).



My friend A who drives in Shanghai, sent me this picture he took of his GPS the other day. The arrow with the circle around is his car's position. I DO NOT ever want to drive in China. Especially where people use their horns indiscriminately. I scared!!

By the way, have you heard George Carlin? He's a pretty dang good comedian!!

The Wild Bunch

Every morning, on my way to work, I would drive past a few patches of wildflowers that immediately puts a smile on my face. I had first noticed a patch of orange flowers about 3 miles into my drive. And then on another day, a patch of purple wildflowers appeared in another location. The grand surprise, about a week ago, was when I noticed a new bed of wildflowers of reds and whites, yellows and purples, popping up all over the place! It always makes my heart sing when I drive past.

One of the wildflower beds had a sign that read "NCDOT Wildflower Program". I came home and googled it and guess what I found? The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) began the Wildflower Program in 1985 as part of an initiative to beautify the highways. How cool is that? Wildflower beds are installed and maintained across the state by Roadside Environmental personnel and apparently many of these bed are marked with wildflower signs indicating the type of flowers. I have yet to see these signs, but then again, I'm supposed to be driving so I can't really pay too much attention.

Because, speaking of which, I drove my car off the road and hit a road sign today. Luckily, I was driving real slow around the bend, like at maybe 15mph, and I was on the back roads of our relatively quiet neighbourhood. And guess why I did that? I was trying to see a mockingbird sitting atop a telephone pole! Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the car was alright save a few scratches to the side mirror.

lesson learnt: DO NOT birdwatch while driving.

which is also why I will probably never learn which are the wildflowers I see every morning.

10 things i did on my day off

1. Got my driver's license (FIRST thing in the morning)
2. Prepared ingredients for chicken casserole supper
3. Vaccumed and dusted the house
4. Started reading 20000 Leagues Under the Sea!
5. Bird watched for a bit (saw a hummingbird!)
6. Watered and weeded the garden
7. Did the laundry
8. Updated my blog!
9. Finished a 500 piece puzzle in 2 hours (with MIL's help!)
10. Called my parents (because I didn't do it over the weekend)


Phew! That was one busy day! I felt so accomplished! I think I rather like waking up so early in the morning, I get so many things done!
