Uh-oh. It's the Big 3-0

It's a big year. Goodbye twenty-something, here comes the big THREE-OH.

I'd like to think my birthday begins at dawn on the other side of the world and ends when night descends on this hemisphere this time tomorrow. So technically I get 36 birthday hours.

No bells and whistles.

Just some mid-week quiet time with the J-man.

And for a birthday treat, I get to go to Jason Mraz's concert at the end of August. I've been listening to his newest album Love Is A Four Letter Word

Does anyone else think that the cover of this album is super clever? I don't know if it's just the pre-school teacher in me that marvels at our mind's ability to recognize symbols and translate them into meaningful associations. Just four simple shapes, what do you see?

Dave Matthews Band in Charlotte, NC

Last night had to be the music highlight of my life! My favoritest band Dave Matthews Band was in town for one night and I was there!!!

I started listening to DMB about 10-12 years ago, and they've been a constant in my music playlists. Other artistes come and go, but DMB just have these oldies but goodies that make my hair stand every time I listen to them. Do you have a certain artiste that make you feel this way? So you know how I feel!

Standing in the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre last night, I was in rapture for the whole TWO AND A HALF HOURS!! Yes, that was how long they played, no sets, no intermission. How awesome is this band? My friends and I were guessing at what the playlist was gonna be, and DMB didn't disappoint. They played so many of my favorites I was so ready to kiss their feet. (Yes, I can sometimes be dramatic like that).



They opened with Big-Eyed Fish and continued to play favorites (mine, at least) like Satellite, So Much to Say, and Dancing Nancies. And finally, when they did their encore, they finished with Trippin' Billies. That drove the crowd wild. And by then I was jumping up and down like a bunny on a sugar high.

And just because they played my all-time favorite song #41, they will be my favorite band for life!

Music Concerts / Festivals Bucket List

I am SUPER STOKED!!

Do you have a bucket list?

Well I do. I have a list of music festivals and concerts to go to in my life time. And I'm about to cross one off my list.

Dave Matthews Band is coming to Charlotte for ONE DAY in May, and I just bought tickets for them!!!! <3<3<3


Now I've listened to some of their "Live in Concert" CDs and man! These guys play a song FUR-EH-VER!!! See, they like to improvise and jam according to their mood, so sometimes you get an ultra long solo or an ending that never really wants to end. But I'm so thrilled to get tickets to see them. When I lived in Singapore, I always hoped that they would do an Asia tour. Who would have thought I'd move here and be closer to fulfilling some of my concert-going dreams!!!

:: Kings of Leon ::

My very first concert in the US of A. Kings of Leon. They must have heard me scream my requests because they sang all my favorite songs! Then again, almost every one of their songs is my favorite. Especially "Use Somebody".

:: Bjork ::

When she was in China, she infamously ended her concert by chanting "Free Tibet" in her song "Declare Independence". Well, pretty apt for the song, but girl, you not going anywhere near the Great Wall in the next few life times.

:: Jason Mraz ::

Now this is one sexy man that can keep his beard and fedora. Watched him in Fuji Rock Festival 2008, where he whipped out a polaroid, took pictures of himself "with" the audience (while on stage), and threw the polaroids into the audience. Oh and his fedora too. Awesome showmanship, but the Japanese crowd was a tad too mild. I would love to go to one of HIS concerts.

::She & Him ::

Love Zooey Deschanel and her voice. She's got such classic charm, who can refuse. Sorry M. Ward, you know she steals the show.

:: Regina Spektor ::

I love her voice, love her tunes and catchy lyrics. The album that stole my heart was Songs. Fun songs in that album especially Aching to Pupate and Consequences of Sounds!!!

:: Jack Johnson ::

Picture this - Surfer dude who plays a guitar under the palm tree sitting on the beach in the warm sea breeze. What is there not to love?? This guy has the best job EH-VAH!


And the bucket list continues to list just about any other music festivals i can get my hands on!!!! Someday I will hit Glastonbury. Coachella and Lollapalooza seem much more attainable now!!

Enjoy your weekend! I'll be without my faithful internet for awhile because we are officially MOVING IN tomorrow!! We got all our bags/boxes packed up, and i spent all my time after work today on my hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen closets and floors. Now my hands smell like bleach *bleagh* but we have a pretty decent looking house! Did i mention that we were given a bedroom outfit complete with TWO roomy dressers, and a vintagey looking couch and loveseat and coffee table???? I have to take photos of them to share with you. I'm so glad how everything came together. It's like the electrical issues happened for a reason. Because of the delay, we managed to score the free furniture from my in-laws' friends! Gotta think of a nice way to say thank you to those lovely people! Anyone has any ideas what we can do for them? Since we're pretty broke now, something DIY will be great! I was thinking of baking for them, so if anyone has a yummilicious but relatively simple recipe, please toss it my way! :)

Pandora opens the (music) box

Hello my crafty friends,

I was reading Jenny Hart (of Sublime Stitching)'s email when she mentioned that she created some playlists to share via Spotify. These are some songs that she listens to while she embroiders and that made me want to find out:

what do YOU listen to when you are crafting?!

I keep all my music on an external hard drive, so i have to plug that into my laptop whenever i want to listen to music. Sometimes, my work desk is so cluttered with sewing stuff that i have no room to accommodate even that tiny slice of hard drive. As a result, there was a lengthy period of time when i crafted without music *GASP*

...that is until i discovered Pandora. Ta-daa!!! My saviour!!! Pandora streams music and plays them back to back, occasionally peppering ads in between songs. I can handle that.

But wait. there's more!

The best thing about Pandora, is that it detects your favorite music, especially if you login with FB and if your FB profile already specifies what type of music you like. It's kinda like Genius on iTunes. If you don't like a certain song, you click on the 'thumbs down' button. Likewise, for songs you like you click on 'thumbs up". That way, it helps the program narrow down the music genres and play only songs and artists you love! Now is that smart or what???

So, please check out pandora.com if you haven't already (although i know i'm probably a few years, alright, fine... 10 years too slow!) and i think it only works when you are in the US? that i'm not too sure. but check it out anyway.

So. back to my question,
